Musco Light the First Floodlit Racetrack in Ireland Musco Lighting Ireland Limited has been chosen to light Ireland's first ever-floodlit racetrack at Dundalk Racecourse, Co Louth. Musco were chosen at the outset of this project following their international experience on over 30 horse racetracks, including the first ever-British floodlit course at Dunstall Park, Wolverhampton. The decision was made as a result of Musco's ability to aid the client through the design and planning process, as well as the benefits of Light-Structure Green™ (LSG), energy savings and inclusive 10-year warranty. Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism, John O'Donoghue said: “Dundalk's new all-weather racetrack will make history on a number of fronts: Ireland's first floodlit racetrack, our first all-weather track and the first combined horse and greyhound racing facility. It is an ambitious project and I am sure that it will be a successful one”. The target opening date for the modern facility is August 2007. Development plans were given the go ahead following maximum funding of €10.276m, from the Board of Horse Racing Ireland. The track, which is an oval 10-furlong (2,000m) track with a five-furlong sprint finish, will be lit to 800-lux average vertical. This is ideal for both horse and greyhound racing and more than sufficient for the requirements of televised viewing. Musco have utilised fifty-two lighting columns and a total of six hundred and thirty three (LSG) fixtures to provide the above. Musco are honored to be working with Dundalk Racecourse, who has had a tradition of racing for over 100 years.
