Musco Light up Casement Park to be the Brightest Ground in Ireland Musco Lighting have installed the highest level of floodlighting of any sports facility in Ireland. Casement Park in Antrim, West Belfast will become the envy of many other countries across Ireland following the erection of the floodlights. The first of the four lighting structures for the hurling ground was put in place on Tuesday the 18th April, and the final floodlight was erected on Friday 21st April. The structures stand at an impressive 120ft (40m) high, each with 77 unique Light-Structure Green™ fixtures. The Floodlights will create virtual daylight in the ground with minimal spill and maximum efficiency. Light-Structure Green is an advanced system unique to Musco that offers significant advantages in operating and maintenance costs. The technology allows running costs to be cut in half due to the increased efficiency of the fixtures. More useable light on the field also means less energy is wasted as off-site spill light. Chairperson of Casement Park ond one of the driving forces behind the floodlights plan, Gerry McClory, was delighted to see the system erected. “These are state of the art 21st century floodlights – specifically designed to enable hurling to be played”. The floodlighting is good news for both Antrim GAA and the local community since league matches can be scheduled for Friday and Saturday nights and free up the venue for club fixtures on Sundays. It is not decided who will officially switch on the new lighting, nor the first match at which they will be used, but it is expected they will be used some time in September.
