Musco Lighting Support
Bobby Moore Fund's ‘Project Brazil’

Musco Lighting recently sponsored Bobby Moore Fund £750 to aid their fundraising trip to Brazil. Project Brazil, involved volunteers raising sponsorship money to renovate a remote Brazilian School and build a football pitch for the local community. The Bobby Moore Fund chose to run a project-based international challenge in Brazil, in order to achieve two key objectives: Firstly to raise money for essential bowel cancer research, in the UK. Secondly to leave a lasting legacy in Bobby's memory, to a local community in a remote and impoverished area - Brazil then was the perfect choice.

The famous image of Bobby and Pele swapping shirts in 1970 will remain in football fans' memories forever. Football added a large element to the challenge, as the volunteers played football every evening against the locals and the grand finale to the trip was a match against the official Alto Paraiso team - needless to say the home side won 4-3!

The ten day trip to Brazil took place in early October. Forty volunteers took part and the project is expected to have raised £200,00 for UK Bowel Cancer Research. Musco were lucky enough to travel to the Charity headquarters in London, to pass on the cheque to Bobby Moore's wife, Stephanie Moore MBE.

Musco commented, ‘It was an honour to meet Stephanie, someone so dedicated to the charity and raising awareness for others. It is great for Musco to be involved with such a worthy cause helping raising funds for vital research’.

The school in Brazil is now fully operational with over 150 children extremely proud of their new school. The community football pitch will provide an area for games and encourage youngsters to get involved in sport.

Andy Ambler, a volunteer on the trip said, ‘This has been one of the greatest experiences of my life, thank you to everyone who has been involved’.

Each year more than 35,000 people are diagnosed with bowel cancer, the disease from which Bobby Moore died in 1993, aged just 51. It is the second highest cause of cancer death in the UK. When bowel cancer is found early, around nine out of ten people can be cured.

Stephanie Moore set up the charity
13 years ago and since then over £6 million has been raised through various events and projects such as Project Brazil. In the past year the Bobby Moore Fund has appointed its 15th bowel cancer research campaign and opened the Bobby Moore Laboratory at St Marks Hospital, Northwick Park, London. Stephanie commented, ‘Without Musco's support, we would not be able to continue to fund important research into new and more effective treatments for bowel cancer’.
