The academy, near the Millennium Dome site in Greenwich, is the largest sporting facility of its kind in Europe featuring two full-size indoor football pitches. Musco Lighting have installed the Light-Pak™ indoor floodlighting system which offers both cost effective and energy efficient performance. Musco's Light-Pak 1000-Multi Watt luminaries are fitted with fully tempered, anti reflective glass and are 20% more efficient than alternative lamps. The Pitches are lit to 500 lux average achieved with 88 fixtures per pitch. The Multi-Watt switching facility allows each pitch to be lit to a reduced level of 250/300 lux for economy everyday use. Every year, more than 15,000 boys and girls of all abilities are expected to attend the academy. The Academy is seen as an integral part of the redevelopment of the Dome site on the Greenwich Peninsula into an entertainment and sporting complex.
