Great Leighs – Musco's Biggest and Brightest Horse Track Eight-and-a-half furlong floodlit Polytrack circuit Great Leighs Racecourse - Essex, United Kingdom Musco recently completed installation of lighting for the Great Leighs Racecourse in Essex, United Kingdom. Musco used 74 Light-Structure Green™ poles carrying 943 Green Generation™ luminaires to light the track to 1000 lux which will enable them to meet television broadcast standards. The track also plans to broadcast in High Definition in the future, which will also be possible thanks to the lighting. To satisfy the owner's vision, Musco's creativity was called upon to provide poles that resemble champagne glasses without sacrificing any of the values of Light-Structure Green. Poles resemble champagne glasses The lighting system is designed to achieve high-end professional light levels while remaining energy conscious by controlling offsite spill and glare light. Track owners also purchased Multi-Watt™ technology with the system, which allows owners to reduce energy consumption by using lower light levels during non-racing time frames. Horse racing is the second most popular sport in Britain, both in terms of revenue and attendance (Deloitte study for the British Horseracing Board, June 2006). Great Leighs is the first new racecourse in the UK in 80 years and will provide race fans with an expanded calendar of 18 night events for the remainder of 2008.
