Musco Light the Way for the Future of GAA at Galway Four Musco Mobile Lighting rigs lit Pearse stadium The first International rules match to be played under floodlights proved a great success, at Pearse Stadium, Galway, thanks to Musco Lighting Ireland Ltd. The sell out crowd of 34,000 saw Ireland's amateur Gaelic Football representatives, stage an incredible comeback to claim a remarkable eight-point victory over Australia's squad of professional Football League stars, in the first of two International Rules Test matches. Four Musco Mobile Lighting rigs lit Pearse stadium, to 800 lux horizontal and set the scene for an evening of great excitement and entertainment. The International test was preceded by the M Donnelly Interprovincial Hurling final, between Leinster and Connacht which saw the first competitive hurling match played under floodlights in Ireland. Leinster held a commanding 1-13 to 0-10 lead at the break and there seemed no way back for Connacht. The second half saw Leinster keep notching scores as they increased the deficit and ran out comfortable winners. Dermot Power, Commercial Director of the GAA, commented that “it was something different and a step forward for Galway and the GAA to host the first competitive hurling competition and International test under floodlights. The lighting was to a very high standard and enabled the competitions to be played as if in natural light. Judging by the sell out crowd and amazing atmosphere that transpired at the event, there looks to be a great future for the Gaelic Athletic Association and floodlit matches in Ireland”. The second test held at Croke Park, Dublin saw another record-breaking crowd of over 82,000.
